R2 stands for Responsible Recycling. R2 is a responsible recycling standard published by SERI. R2 is the world's most widely adopted responsible recycling standard. Over 900 facilities have become certified to this standard.
SERI stands for Sustainable Electronics Recycling International. SERI is a non-profit organization dedicated to the responsible reuse, repair, and recycling of electronic products. The R2 certification process is governed by SERI.
The R2 standard is in its third version (R2v3). The standard outlines how to approach the electronics recycling process, addressing the reuse of electronic equipment and the disposal of electronic waste, among other things. The new version adopts new rules such as how to properly destroy data contained in electronics.
