NSF is a dietary supplement GMP certification scheme. The requirements for the scheme are found in the NSF/ANSI 455-2 standard. The standard requires that a product safety and quality management system is established at the dietary supplement manufacturing facility.
GMP stands for "Good Manufacturing Practices." GMPs are essentially FDA regulatory requirements governing dietary supplement products, as well as food and medical devices. FDA stands for the Food and Drug Administration, which also governs the dietary supplement industry. GMPs for dietary supplements address such things as how to control dietary ingredients, the proper packaging, labeling, and holding of dietary supplements, how to verify the quality of the dietary supplement, how to control contract manufacturers and other suppliers, as well as many other subjects.
