R2v3 Recycling Certification
Jared Clark, Principal Consultant at Certify Consulting, breaks down what R2v3 certification actually costs and how long it takes — consulting fees, audit fees, and the four-stage timeline most electronics recyclers should budget for.
R2v3 certification has two separate cost components, and understanding both prevents surprises mid-project:
Facilities that already hold ISO 14001 or ISO 9001 certification typically see lower consulting costs, since the EHSMS and document-control infrastructure R2v3 requires substantially overlaps with what's already in place.
Scoring current practice against all 12 core requirements and identifying which Appendices apply to your operations.
Building or repairing EHSMS documentation, tracking systems, data security procedures, and downstream due diligence records.
A full internal audit cycle and formal management review, closing any corrective actions before the certification audit.
Documentation review followed by the operational audit conducted by your accredited certification body.
Most facilities complete the full path in 4 to 6 months. Facilities transitioning from R2:2013 (see our R2v3 vs. R2:2013 comparison) or those with an existing ISO management system typically move toward the faster end of that range.
